Newbattle Abbey welcomed more than 800 people to their Queen’s Baton Relay celebration on Monday 16 June.
The grounds of the 900-year-old Newbattle Abbey were decked in Commonwealth flags as the Midlothian public turned out in force to catch a glimpse of the baton, which is nearing the end of its journey around Commonwealth countries prior to the opening ceremony of Glasgow 2014.
Among the entertainment at the event were Cantiamo choir, the Newtongrange Pipe Band, and a local group of Scottish dancers
Ann Southwood, Principal of Newbattle Abbey College, said: “It was a privilege for Newbattle Abbey College to play a part in the baton’s journey to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
“The event was a real success and we were delighted to host such an important Midlothian event. “There was great excitement when the baton entered the college grounds, and the runners were afforded a wonderful reception by the hundreds of people present.”
